INSTRUCTIONS FOR: HPLJ4, HPLJ4M, HPLJ4+ HPLJ5, HPLJ5M, HPLJ4M+ PRINTER SETTINGS Step 1 - pull seal and place cartridge in printer Step 2 “Setting the retention” - take printer off line - push menu button till display reads printing menu - push item button till display reads ret= - push the + or - button till this reads light - push the enter or select button, this will lock your setting in (indicated with an astract) Step 3 “Setting the density” - push the menu button till display reads config menu - push the item button till display reads density - push the + or - button till this reads density =1 - push the enter or select button, this will lock your setting in (indicated with an astract) (if you get any type of a background, you will want to set the density setting to 3) Step 4 is to put printer back on line. COMPUTER SETTINGS FOR WINDOWS 95, 98 All steps - Click onto my computer, then double click onto printers, then find the printer of choice and click on the icon once, then click on file, then go down to properties and click. Now your property files will pop-up. Go to graphics and click. Set your page so that it reads as following: 600dpi, dithering = coarse (for scanning), intensity = 170 (for great gray scales) and raster graphics (for faster printing). Now click on ok. Next, go to the device options file. Find the ret= setting and change this to light. Push ok now your finished.
